York: The Maize Maze

10:09

After hearing many great things about the 'York maze' we decided to take a visit last year. I had seen it advertised year after year and it looked like the perfect place to spend the whole day - providing the weather stays nice for us! The 'York maze' is mainly aimed at kids/family days out but that didn't stop us having the best time. Apart from the UK's largest maze there was still so much to do we spent hours walking about and didn't get bored,we have already decided we will be going back this year with some friends. York maze is only open at certain times in the year due to the large maze been made out of over a million real maize plants! 'York maze' opens 16th July until 5th September so you have plenty of time to go while/if England ever gets good weather...

We spent a good hour and half walking around the large maze, each year it's shaped differently and from the skies makes a image using the paths as lines. I have to say it wasn't very hard but I don't think it's meant to be. You get a card on entrance and you're meant to work your way round finding the numbers which give you questions themed to match the maze. There's several higher overlooking points if you do loose track of where you are at or need to find a certain number to complete your chart. Me and Tom enjoyed walking around the whole thing peacefully, we ran into very few people inside the maize walls so we just talked, and talked, and talked. It was amazing to feel so far away from home and it be so calm. This years theme was 'Thunderbirds' due to the 50th anniversary been this year.Like i said after the large maze there is still so much to do.  There is 3 smaller mazes, an illusion maze with images, mirrors and intractable's to boggle the mind, a mini golf 'maze' and lastly a finger paint maze. We found the last one very funny, the idea behind it is you walk around and find colored finger paints and paint one finger on one hand. You keep going until all 5 fingers are different colors then when you come back out there is a chart telling you what to do depending on the 5 color combination you picked. As long as you can have some fun this is hilarious, walking out we watched kids running round 'clucking like chickens' and parents 'pretending to be a pony' or 'ride a motorbike'.

Other than mazes there is other attractions like real pig racing (at set times through the day) sadly we missed them!! A huge bouncy castle style 'jumping bag' for both adults and kids, a interactive tractor ride around the grounds and live show where actors sing, dance and interact with the kids - can't say this way a hit for us (mainly because there was just so many flies and we was hungry) speaking of food the food courts where surprisingly cheap and still delicious. We had ice creams when we got there and burgers later in the day over all I only spent £10 on food and we picked up drinks too!

Our two favourite parts of the whole day was the 'mad house maze' and the animals.
The 'mad house maze' was a small walk through fun house with a mirrored maze inside. It really messed with our heads with sidewise rooms and little illusions to make you all confused! I couldn't help but giggle all the way through. Then there was the animals, there was a show and tell style area where you could see 10 different birds of prey and hold a variety of animals! There was ofcourse small things like snails and hamsters ranged to hedgehogs, leopard geckos and a huge boa. I got to hold the giant boa wrapped around my neck and had the gecko running round my hands. Me and Tom are huge animal fans especially geckos and lizards. Down near the pig racing there was a small petting farm with goats, pigs and chickens!
Thanks a bunch for reading - I am going to be posting weekly (I'm hoping a Friday) so please come back and read some more if you enjoyed this💕
